Increasing Your Checkout Conversion Rate

Tip # 1 – Hide “Express” Payment methods in your checkout

These pesky little buttons decrease checkout conversion rates!

By removing these buttons you’re not removing the option for these payment methods – you’re just removing the chance of confusion with your customers when they think that these are the only payment methods you offer. These “express checkout” options are also known to fail and create errors within your checkout.

There are several Shopify Apps available on the Shopify App store where you can easily download, click one button and then these buttons disappear all for less than $1 per month. Here is one that we recommend (we are in no way associated with this app) :

Tip # 2 – Continue your Add To Cart Button Colour within your checkout

Keep your user’s experience consistent by customising your checkout buttons. You can easily change your checkout within your Shopify theme editor.

Tip # 3 – Edit the copy within your Shopify Checkout using the Language Settings

Shopify is the most popular eCommerce platform – fact! One issue a lot of online retailers have in the inability to customise the checkout in ways you can with other platforms or a custom built store.

Whereas Shopify offers 99.99% uptime and is able to withstand HUGE volumes of traffic and orders, the restrictive nature of the Shopify checkout can be rather frustrating. We’re pleased to say there is a sneaky way to customise the text that your users see within your checkout.

Start in your Shopify Dashboard > Settings > Store Languages > Click on Change Theme Language

This opens a page where you can provide “translations” for your site.

Click on the 3 dots on the right and select Checkout & System

Open your checkout in a seperate window by adding an item to your cart and proceeding to checkout. Then you’ll be able to see exactly what your customers see. If there is a bit of text you’d like to change copy it and then search for it within the Shopify language editor. This will allow you to change ANY text within the checkout.

Top tip : if you offer free delivery on all orders, search for “calculated at next step” and update to “Free Delivery On All Orders”. See two examples of a before and after below :
